Yeah, it all looks a bit bloodthirsty. But the writer's really good. And I've seen other stuff by the artist and it's amazingly detailed. And quite disturblingly bloodthirsty at times. It just seems like an interesting premise for a comic, that's all.
Ah, and in other comic related news: 300 is a rather good film after all. Bodes well for Watchmen, at least. Hurrah!

Hurrah, it's comics day today (well, seeing as The Bean Machine's back from the garage and I can actually get to the comic shop now) so no-one will see me for a week or so, while I plow through back issues of:
All Star Superman Wolfskin New Universal Fell a smidgin of Batman Jonah Hex DMZ
Still waiting for the new issue of Local to be released though. What's happening with Megan? I need to know!!!

Well, I can safely say that issues 1-3 of wolfskin weren't particularly impressive. The huge naked man-cock in issue 2 distracted far too much from the storytelling and the rampant gore in issue three (while being very nicely illustrated) was all a bit much.
All Star Superman was amazing but a bit baffling. And the Batman was pretty good. Fell #8 was astonishingly good and has already been lent to Oz. I'll let you know how issues 1-5 of New Universal work out for me, and the last issue of the current story arc of DMZ is up for a reading too. Comics are ace.

I'd join in with you here Bean, but I haven't read a comic since The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers.
Hence, I've no idea what you're talking about.
Not for the first time, I might add..

Have we had a conversation about them boys before?!
Due to my piss poor memory skills (other than anything that happened when I was 7) I'm unsure.

They were my faves when I led a particular lifestyle.
In fact I still have them.
Don't think that makes me a comic geek though.

I ain't read too much of the furry freak brothers. I've read enough to know they go on about all sorts of illegal nonsense though.

Oooh, and issues 1-5 of New Universal turned out to be pretty good. Although all the characters speak like hard-boiled detective types and look like film/tv actors. But the story's shaping up nicely and some of the art is flippin' amazing.
Damn, I'm boring myself with this thread. Someone, quick, read some comics so this can look like some kind of conversation.

This is nowt to do with comics really, but it is kind of in keeping with popular themes of the future, sci-fi and substance abuse & it will also look like someone is talking to you. A Scanner Darkly - one of my favourite books. When I found out it was going to be made into a film with Keanu Reeves as Bob Arctor, a weeny bit of me died. And I'm weeny enough as it is. Anyroad, pissin about in the early hours, I found out that you can watch the first 24 minute, gratis, here: uk.media.movies.ign.com/media/670/670907/vids_1.htmlalthough you do have to verify your age a lot & also wait a while for it to buffer if you don't want to spoil your viewing pleasure. I was pleasantly surprised ! It's pretty much in keeping with the book, which makes a change. Having said that I still like Blade Runner & that's a far cry. But anyway.

Blade Runner's a fantastic piece of work though. I watched it a couple of weeks back and it's still belting. "Like tears in rain" all that stuff's class.
I keep meaning to watch that scanner darkly thang. It looks ace.
If we're talking sci-fi though: Firefly That's where it's at.

Ooh, it's written and directed by Joss Whedon, the guy who's responsible for Buffy and Angel and some really well written X-men comics.
Anyway, it's a classy series and led very well into the Serenity feature film. If I owned them, I'd lend them. Although I'm going to blag a copy off of holmesy cuz they're really worth watching at least fifty times.

AICN Exclusive! So What’s Going On With WATCHMEN Casting?!
A longtime source reared his head today and passed on a few tips about faces we’re likely to see in WATCHMEN when Zack Snyder’s film version of the long-in-development graphic novel adaptation finally makes its way to the screen in 2008, and some of it’s surprising, while some of it isn’t at all.
Right now, there are offers out to three people to join the cast. If the studio’s gotten to the point where they’re officially making an offer, you can expect that these people will most likely make it into the film.
So that means we’ll see The Prom King, Patrick Wilson, suit up as Night Owl. I think he’s a great choice for Dan, and all you need to do is look at the work he did in LITTLE CHILDREN as an example of the sort of quiet sadness he’ll bring to the role.
Dr. Manhattan is a tricky part, and there’s something alien and otherworldly about him. Keanu Reeves always seems to me to be on a different wavelength than anyone else on the planet, so when he steps into the part as the big blue superbeing, it might be a nice fit.
And in the biggest “duh” of the year, Jude Law has been offered the role of Adrien Veidt, aka Ozymandias. Perfect choice, and Law’s been saying for years that he is a huge fan of the material. If anyone out there is more right for the role, I don’t know who it is.

Ah, you'll need to be staying in more. I'll lend you a copy of watchmen, it's like the War And Peace of comics, apparently.
Unhappy face: my cash flow problems have resulted in me being unable to go to thunderbooks for comic purchasing this month. It's going to be extra expensive next month. I suppose I could give something up in order to be able to afford my paper/ink fix.
